VRFs are typically installed with an Air conditioner inverter which adds a DC inverter to the compressor in order to support variable motor speed and thus variable refrigerant flow rather than simply perform on/off operation. By operating at varying speeds, VRF units work only at the needed rate allowing for substantial energy savings at partial-load conditions. Heat recovery VRF technology allows individual indoor units to heat or cool as required, while the compressor load benefits from the internal heat recovery. Energy savings of up to 55% are predicted over comparable unitary equipment. This also results in greater control of the building’s interior temperature by the building’s occupants.
VRFs come in two system formats, two pipe and three pipe systems. In a heat pump 2 pipe system all of the zones must either be all in cooling or all in heating. Heat Recovery (HR) systems have the ability to simultaneously heat certain zones while cooling others; this is usually done through a three pipe design, with the exception of Mitsubishi and Carrier who are able to do this with a 2 pipe system using a Branch Circuit (BC) controller to the individual indoor evaporator zones. In this case the heat extracted from zones requiring cooling is put to use in the zones requiring heating. This is made possible because the heating unit is functioning as a condenser, providing sub-cooled liquid back into the line that is being used for cooling. While the heat recovery system has a greater initial cost, it allows for better zoned thermal control of a building and overall greater efficiencies. In heat recovery VRF systems, some of the indoor units may be in cooling mode while others are in heating mode, reducing energy consumption. If the coefficient of performance in cooling mode of a system is 3, and the coefficient of performance in heating mode is 4, then heat recovery performance can reach more than 7. While it is unlikely that this balance of cooling and heating demand will happen often throughout the year, energy efficiency can be greatly improved when the scenario occurs.
Any commercial kitchen operator or restaurateur knows that if the correct kitchen exhaust fan is not in place a grease fire can wipe out the entire area. Even with a sprinkler system thousands of dollars in damage can happen in an instant. While insurance may replace the area that has been damaged, what happens to all the sales that were missed because of downtime?
Kitchen exhaust fans have kept up with advancing technology. Wall hoods are now available where the kitchen owner can purchase a single exhaust only canopy or go all out with a wall style compensated exhaust canopy with external front or rear supply plenum .
For all those salad bars and steam tables there are now a host of different Island Hood choices. There is a simple island style exhaust canopy, an internally compensated exhaust canopy or a single island compensated exhaust canopy with perforated face – and everything in between. Plus there are low wall hoods as well as specialty hoods.
One thing that a buyer wants to be sure of is that the company manufacturing the hood can also provide pre-piped fire suppression systems that can be completely integrated for safer operation against grease and other types of food preparation fire hazards. It gives everyone greater peace of mind knowing that the new kitchen exhaust fan works hand in hand with other products that have great features and benefits.
DuctSox products are used to distribute and disperse air in both Open and Finished Ceiling Architecture.
Different than conventional metal ductwork, DuctSox products are engineered and manufactured for each project. Designs can be simple, straight systems or very intricate layouts which incorporate fittings such as radius elbows, Ts, and transitions. Sections are zippered together to form extended lengths with diameters from 8 – 80 inches (203mm – 1,524mm). Whether industrial, retail, education, commercial, government, warehousing, laboratory, food processing, temporary or permanent, DuctSox offers a proven choice.
There are five key elements to consider when configuring a DuctSox System.
- Shape/Suspension/Fabric Retention
- Layout Fittings
- Air Dispersion
To ensure proper system design, DuctSox Inside Sales and Engineering staff are available for assistance. Or, you can request of copy of the DuctSox Design Manual.
Several installation videos are now available in our video library. Find out how easy it is to install a DuctSox fabric duct system, and save time and money compared to installing metal ductwork!
